McDonald’s Table

I just noticed that our screen-saver changed! Lloyd must have done it sometime last evening. I just noticed it now, and it brought a smile to my face. Here’s what I found:

This picture brought back so many memories! I remembered how we, as a young family, often traveled the 10 hour trip between our home in Sioux Center, and the home of my parents, Grandpa and Grandma Veenstra, in Racine, WI.  On one of these trips, as we passed through Madison, WI, where Uncle Butch (my Mom’s brother) and Aunt Lisa lived with their kids (We often stopped in Madison on our way to/from Sioux Center, IA, to Racine, WI ), we discovered that a local McDonald’s was CLOSING! They were getting rid of all their tables. We decided to rescue a particular table at the time, because we figured it would make a nice fixture in our Sioux Center, IA backyard. We picked it out of the rubble, and strapped in on top of our silver Delta 88 diesel . We traveled with the McDonald’s table, all the way to Sioux Center, IA, and installed it in our backyard there. When the kids were little, we had many picnics at this McDonald’s table, and many “craft” moments with crayons, markers, and especially finger paint.  This picture here, was taken just before we were going to carve fall pumpkins. The Indian sweaters were all made by Lloyd’s Mom.   Now Oma’s sweaters are in process of getting passed on to little people like Emma, Claire, Eden, Marley,  Levi and ?
