Major Inspiration

Nick and Jess, you guys are major inspiration for us “newbies” to biking!  After reading your recent MS150 post, we are pumped to keep biking further distances and more often. We’ve been gradually breaking in our new road-bikes since this past March,  with Sunday afternoon bike-rides (when we’re in Des Moines)  as well as Tuesday and Thursday PM bike rides after work. We’ve both been quite challenged by the addition of a bike training regime to our already established running “training template”. We’re assuming that our increased fatigue is normal for people who start a whole new sport (biking) in addition to their already existing sport (running). Hopefully, we will soon get the hang of it all, and feel more energetic as we train in both sports. We had better figure it out by September, when we’re planning to complete our second duathlon!

Although we’ve been wearing our running clothes for biking attire, we did decide to buy biking specific jerseys. As you can see by the pics below, we market for Dordt College wherever we go. These jerseys were worn by the “Sea to Sea” Dordt team this past year, in the bike ride accross the US from West to East coast.

  1. Way to go mom and dad! Before you know it you’ll be biking 95 miles too. (hint — get off the trails and on to the open road)
