Cleaveland Pear

Posted in Uncategorized on May 3rd, 2008 by vicki

It used to be children who helped and now it’s a big puppy:) We picked up our pear tree this AM and planted it in our backyard. The City of Johnston promotes tree planting every year, by offering 100 trees (four different varieties, selections change every year) $25 each, first come first served. This is the fourth tree in our yard, that is a result of this program. Prior to planting the pear tree this AM, we ran the “Childserve Run 4 the Kids” 5K. The course started at Childserve’s main entrance, with pancakes before/after, and made it’s way through our neighborhood, with main water-stop just a block from our house. The most exciting part of this race was meeting Abby, a young girl in 2nd grade who had somehow lost her parents and older sister on the course. She was quite distraught, so we ran/walked with her to the end where she was able to find her parents. As we talked along the way, she told us she was from Minnesota, and that her Uncle Bill was helping with the race. At that point, we figured out that her Uncle Bill was Bill Kallestad, the race director and also a good running friend of ours. Small world!
