We were driving down 86th Street in Des Moines, IA, yesterday, and noticed that our most memorable McDonald’s is closing! We fondly remembered the day in July, 1985, when we drove all the way from Sioux Center, IA, with our whole family (at the time Kristin was 6, Nicholas was 4 1/2 and Reuben was 3) to big city Des Moines to pick up 2-year-old Kimberly. After meeting Kimberly for the first time as she came off the airplane, and after spending the night in a Best Western Hotel in downtown Des Moines (which was a HUGE adventure for our young family), we went to MCDONALD”S on 86th for breakfast in the morning. This was a BIG DEAL for our family, as we rarely ate out in those days. So needless to say, we were rather saddened by the closing of this McDonald’s, even though the better part of us thinks that ALL McDonald’s should close:)
