Back in time

As we set up our Christmas tree this year, and eagerly anticipate the arrival of all our adult children and grand-children (and my parents) to DSM for Vanderkwaak Christmas 2007, we are reminded of how quickly time passes. It seems like just yesterday that we were setting up our Christmas tree at 4600 Victory Avenue in Racine, WI. Truth is though, it was 24 years ago (1983)! We were celebrating Christmas for the last time in Racine. On December 26th of that year, we loaded our belongings into a U-Haul, and with the help of my parents, moved our young family to Sioux Center, IA. Kim was still in Korea, 5 months old at the time. We had no idea that in less than two years she would be joining our family. Looking back in time is so very different from living life forward. Looking back, it is easy and so reassuring to recognize the Movements of God in our lives. It’s also reassuring to know that His Movements continue each and every day of our present lives. We are learning how to recognize this more and more in the present moment.

Reuben (17 months)
I had to chuckle when reading what I had written on the back of this photo: “One little angel being touched by another”. It reminded me of what an “endeared” cuddler Reuben was. He loved to sit on my lap to cuddle/sing/ read, often several hours daily.

It’s amazing to think that Kristin (and Curt) now have Emma (3) and Claire (17 months), and that Reuben (and Heidi) now have Eden (7 months)!
