Most mud ever
Posted in Uncategorized on November 17th, 2007 by vickiWe survived “Living History Farms” today, America’s biggest cross-country race. Seven (6.8 to be more exact) miles over pasture, grassy hills, trails, with at least 5 stream crossings. MUDDY streams, with banks so steep/slippery/slimy with mud, that climbing was quite challenging. Murky water on the deepest stream crossing came just above our knees. We, along with some of our friends, and approximately 6800 other people had a splashing great time. Hot cider, coffee and thousands of donuts at the end. It was about 40 degrees but sunny, so not too bad for those dressed in bathing suits or even less than that. We saw lots of strange looking characters, including a group of 6-8 guys all wearing only “Depends”. You can only imagine the conversations around that. If interested in details you can check the race calandar at www.fitnesssports.com for some pics of the course.
Our group before the race started. We had to get there early, like 7:45AM, even though race didn’t start until 0900, due to anticipated traffic back-ups. Friend, Dennis brought hot cocoa in a thermos, which we sipped to stay warm

Dennis brought his 16 year old niece, Shelby along. She runs cross country at her high school, and did agree that this course was unusually MUDDY
Afterwards. This pic doesn’t show our feet, luckily. We all wore our oldest running shoes with plans to throw away afterwards.
Oh, and we saw lots of folks afterwards, like Jason Bowden and Erica (formerly Anthony, now married). Lots of updates to give/take.
It was great seeing you guys out on the course today, and I am glad your family had as much fun as mine did.
i really want to run that–whenever i see the pics it always looks like such a great time!
