SLC
Posted in Uncategorized on June 25th, 2007 by vickiWe’re just back early this afternoon from Salt Lake City, where we were visiting my brother, Joel, for a long weekend. Highlight of this trip was the hike we did on Saturday. We started part-way up a canyon about 10 miles outside of SLC, and hiked a constant 2.8 mile incline to a beautiful lake near the top. Once there, Lloyd found a resting place on a large rock over-looking the lake, and proceeded to quietly solve the problems of the world while Joel and I hiked further, in search of 2 other lakes that were up in that area, according to a map that Joel had. Eventually we found them, after much trial and error through the bush without a trail, over numerous very rocky sections and back/forth across a river several times (reminded me, Nick, of our Alaskan adventure hike with you:). What fun. We were good and tired by the time we got back to the car. Temps were OK in the mountains, but once back to SLC, it was HOT…..a good 96 degrees. Without humidty, however, it’s really not that bad. Can’t believe I just said that. The other highlight, I guess, was the art show we went to on Sunday afternoon. Lloyd and I recognized several artists that were at the Des Moines Art Festival last year, and will likely be there again this coming weekend in Des Moines.
Our trip back to Des Moines was economical thanks to a Delta pilot brother:) It took awhile though. Dut to stand-by status, we didn’t make it onto the one and only flight from SLC to Des Moines yesterday. Next best option was to fly to Des Moines via Cincinnati. We missed the first flight for that too, but eventually got on a flight to Cincinnati late last night. We were able to catch a flight to Des Moines from Cinncinati mid-AM today.
Funny coincidence though: Once we got back to Des Moines, we received a telephone call from my parents, who had just arrived back to their home in Racine, WI, from Alaska, where they had been visiting my brother, Tim and family. They had also flown via Cincinnati, and JUST HAPPENED to be sitting in Concourse C at Cincinnati airport, between 7:00-9:00AM today, same time we were there! We never saw eachother, but were likely sitting within a half-block of eachother for a good hour or so. Starbucks was nice and close, so we could have shared a great cup of coffee! We had a good laugh about this, and decided we’ll just have to wait a few weekends until we see them in Racine for Nick and Jess’ next TRI.
Here are a few pics taken Friday near SLC:
