15 years
Posted in Uncategorized on March 20th, 2007 by vickiToday marks the 15th year anniversary of Lloyd’s work at Childserve. It is hard to belive, that 15 years ago, we moved to Des Moines, IA, with Lloyd’s new job at the Convaslescent Home for Children as hinge. Kristin had just completed 7th grade, Nicholas was about to enter 6th, Rueben 4th and Kim 3rd, at DSM Christian Schoool. It was not exactly easy to leave our secure surroundings in Sioux Center, Iowa, to embark on this new Des Moines adventure. Everything was new, different, strange. Little did we know, how we would forever miss our Sioux Center front porch, and the way life was so integrated, with all of the various systems ‘interfacing”. Like, the people we worked with, were the people we lived near, were the people we worshiped with, were the people we shopped with, were the people our kids went to school with, were the people we hobbied with. Life in Des Moines was so different, with different people, in different systems, none of which intersected. Everything seemed so fragmented and disconnected. So we weathered the move, kids grew up, went to college, married, had kids etc. And now, it has been 15 years since that first year at “Childserve”. What a journey it has been!! The goal, all along, has been to “CHANGE THE WORLD”, and yes, that has happened. We are confident of that. Many challenges along the way, but we have tried our best to be faithful to the process, and belive that God has blessed/been present in the efforts. So tonight we celebrated together after work, with a bottle of champagne, and some delicious beef country style ribs (which have been in the crock pot all day, since we both have been working since early this AM). Oh, and we had fresh stir-fried asparagus too. Mmmmm. It was a delicious supper, void of dessert, which we just took care of. Lloyd just arrived back from DQ with two small HEATH BLIZZARDS. Mmmmmmmmmm. Congrats, Lloyd, on 15 years!!!!! Thank you for all your hard work! !
i really can’t believe it’s been that long. on one hand, seems like yesterday that we moved–i had just gone to Sandy Hollow “lake” with some friends and had gotten my first sunburn of the summer as it was my goal every year to get tan
we drove to desmoines after many people helped us pack up the truck and broke down about 2 blocks from our new house. we spent that whole evening cleaning the house because it had been left very very dirty.
on the other hand…it seems like forever ago–since then we have all moved away, are beginning and/or have had our own marriages and children, completed college and masters degrees, have or are exploring careers, and you are empty nesters. time is just strange…congrats dad!
congratulations dad.. it’s been amazing to see how much u have helped chance Childserve. Or CHC as it initially was. glad u took that job because i loved living in Des Moines.
yay! congrats. I got the chills reading that. good work on the work.
