It is almost time to got to bed and I am sitting in an internet cafe. We just finished a day of tours and going to the market place. Kiev is a city filled with 1,000 years of history and as we toured the city that history shows through its churches and its monuments. It seems each time some person or country took over Ukraine another monument was built and then when they left another was built. Many occupations involved the destroying of the culture…destruction of churches and art, music etc….and then when they left, the churches were rebuilt and the public buildings were rebuilt and or renamed back to Ukrainian names. This occurred regardless of the TarTar occupation or when Hitler used Ukraine as the killing round during its war with Russia in the 40′s.
The visit to the market place was amazing. The was so many merchants arranged in semi-permanent alcoves selling beatiful fur coats, hats…even men’s suits and shoes.I was able to purchase many items at very good prices…some of them will be given toVicki in honor of her 50th birthday on the 13th! If you are reading this wish her a wonderful birthday!
We get up tomorrow at 3:30 am and begin the trip back. I arrive in Des Moines Around 5:00pm…..we will pend about 5 hours in the Amsterday airport and then a direct flight to Minneapolis and then a short jump to DSM! See you soon.
